The Peninsula Catholic Knights came tearing into Saturday's game with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 60-47 victory over Lancaster.
Peninsula Catholic got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was EJ Joyner out in front who scored 19 points along with six assists and two blocks. Jaylen Wynn was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with four steals and two blocks.
When it comes to explaining why Lancaster lost, one person who can't be blamed is Troy Henderson. Despite the final result, he scored 19 points along with three steals. Henderson is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Kevontrez Bunns, who scored seven points.
Peninsula Catholic has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. As for Lancaster, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Peninsula Catholic will take on Nansemond-Suffolk Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Nansemond-Suffolk Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 166th, while Peninsula Catholic is ranked 29th). As for Lancaster, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Colonial Beach at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Colonial Beach is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
