The Mountain Pointe Pride will head out to square off against the Gilbert Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mountain Pointe will be strutting in after a win while Gilbert will be coming in after a loss.
Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Mountain Pointe turned things around against Campo Verde on Thursday. They managed a 22-17 victory over the Coyotes.
Mountain Pointe's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kristian Escobedo, who threw for 185 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 90.9% of his passes. Aiden Rodriguez did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 99 receiving yards.
Mountain Pointe's run defense was locked in: Campo Verde could only muster 1.7 yards per carry. The team can thank Teylor Caldwell for the heroic effort on defense: he. Mountain Pointe's run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 4.45 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 5.73 on average over their last five games.

Mountain Pointe's defense didn't let Jonah Lubno, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for five sacks. Leading the way was Caldwell with four. Thanks to that big game, he is now up to 8 sacks on the season.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 49 points the game before, Gilbert was a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They were beaten by ALA - Gilbert North 49-6. The Tigers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-0.
Mountain Pointe will have to contain Jonathan Guy as he made an impact in Gilbert's last game. He picked up 73 receiving yards, and also rushed for 47 yards.
Special teams was responsible for all of the team's points. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Guy, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Gilbert has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season. As for Mountain Pointe, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Mountain Pointe came out on top in a nail-biter against Gilbert in their previous meeting back in October of 2017, sneaking past 33-30. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Tigers' Jack Plummer, who threw for 311 yards and four touchdowns, and also rushed for 34 yards.
