Basketball Recap: Paramount Has No Trouble Against Downey

Paramount won the last time they faced Downey and things went their way on Friday too. The Paramount Pirates were the clear victor by a 56-34 margin over the Downey Vikings. The Pirates have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Despite the loss, Downey saw an underclassman step up: freshman Natalie Gomez went 5 for 10 on her way to 16 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. Gomez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 16 games she's played.

Paramount has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. As for Downey, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-14.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Paramount will host Mayfair at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Paramount is facing Mayfair at the right time seeing as Mayfair is stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
