Vista Murrieta is a perfect 10-0 against Murrieta Mesa since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Broncos will look to defend their home field against the Rams at 3:30 p.m. Vista Murrieta is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last eight games.
On Friday, Vista Murrieta got the win against Murrieta Valley by a conclusive 15-2. Considering the Broncos have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Dylan Berentis tossed a big game, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ryland Duson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February. RJ Holmes was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Vista Murrieta was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .391 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Murrieta Mesa's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They lost 13-5 to Temecula Valley. Rams fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Golden Bears since on Friday.
Murrieta Mesa also got a good showing from Morgan Dorlaque, who pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest earned runs Dorlaque has allowed since April 1st.
At the plate, Murrieta Mesa saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cooper Child, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another was Zach Janczyk, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Vista Murrieta pushed their record up to 16-5-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Murrieta Mesa, their loss dropped their record down to 13-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Vista Murrieta has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Murrieta Mesa struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Vista Murrieta took their victory against Murrieta Mesa in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-3 score. Will the Broncos repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
