Wesson is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Monday. They will head out to take on the Loyd Star Hornets at 6:30 p.m. Wesson has given up an average of 15.3 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Wesson came up short against Florence on Friday, falling 17-5. The Cobras have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Madi Brooks was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Eden Hall, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Loyd Star waltzed into their game on Thursday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. Everything went their way against the Yellowjackets as they made off with a 13-0 win. Give the Hornets' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's fifth straight shutout.
Loyd Star got a massive performance out of Kenzie Kay Lofton, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Madison McKenzie was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Loyd Star was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .619. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
Loyd Star's record is now 17-2. As for Wesson, their loss dropped their record down to 4-11.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Wesson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .369. However, it's not like Loyd Star struggles in that department as they've averaged .384. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wesson couldn't quite finish off Loyd Star when the teams last played back in March of 2025 and fell 3-1. Can the Cobras avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
