A feisty cat fight will be fought as Woodside Wildcats face off against Terra Nova Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Woodside comes in on three and Terra Nova on eight.
Woodside is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Washington with a sharp 22-0 win on Saturday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Wildcats with their most commanding win of the season.
Carter Ball tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Trent Amoroso, who fired off two home runs, five runs, and six RBI while going 4-for-5. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. Cruz Torres was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
Meanwhile, Terra Nova gave up the first runs on Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with an 11-8 victory over Mountain View. Terra Nova's win was all the more impressive since the Spartans were averaging only three runs allowed on the season.
Luke Ornelas was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Ornelas was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Joey Donati was incredible, going 3-for-4 with six RBI, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Austin Snead, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Terra Nova always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .561. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Terra Nova's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-2-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games. As for Woodside, their record now sits at 6-4.
Woodside came out on top in a nail-biter against Terra Nova in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, sneaking past 6-5. Does Woodside have another victory up their sleeve, or will Terra Nova turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
