The Las Plumas Thunderbirds will face off against the Chico Panthers at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Las Plumas' pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They came out on top against Lassen by a score of 3-0.
The result came thanks to Hunter George's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Las Plumas saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Gramps, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Chico put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on Enterprise with a sharp 9-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won eight games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Jaden Neugebauer made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Jordan Neugebauer and Tanner Horn did most of the damage at the plate: Jordan scored two runs while going 3-for-4, while Horn scored a run while going 3-for-3. Jaxon Tweedt was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Chico kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matches.
Chico pushed their record up to 9-0 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. As for Las Plumas, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5-2.
Las Plumas suffered a grim 13-1 defeat to Chico in their previous matchup back in May of 2023. Can Las Plumas avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
