High school girls basketball: No. 1 Archbishop Mitty, No. 2 Ontario Christian and No. 25 Etiwanda all win at SI20 Showcase

McKenna Woliczko scores 21 in Mitty win, Kaleena Smith leads Ontario Christian with 25 and Aliyahna Morris drops 36 for Etiwanda.

CONCORD, Calif. — The stars shined Friday at Carondelet High School as No. 1 Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, Calif.), No. 2 Ontario Christian (Ontario, Calif.) and No. 25 Etiwanda (Calif.) all took home wins at the SI20 Showcase.

The first-day action at Sabrina Ionescu's namesake event sets up a No. 1 vs. No. 2 rematch between Archbishop Mitty and Ontario Christian. They met just two weeks ago in the Nike Tournament of Champions title game as the Monarchs rose to No. 1 in the MaxPreps Top after a convincing 59-34 victory.

No. 25 Etiwanda 79, Carondelet (Concord, Calif.) 56

The Eagles were in control of the game throughout although the host Cougars hung tough and cut the lead to 12 in the fourth quarter. But Etiwanda was paced by 36 from Cal commit Aliyahna Morris, who hit three 3-pointers and was 6 of 6 from the free throw line.

The MVP effort from Morris was needed as LSU commit Grace Knox went down with an ankle injury late in the third quarter. She had eight points and six rebounds before her night was finished.

Carondelet was led by Layla Dixon, who scored 13, and eight points from Sophia Ross.

Etiwanda travels to Southern California to play Monache (Porterville) in Saturday's inaugural Kiernan Klassic at Mater Dei.

No. 1 Archbishop Mitty 79, St. Joseph (Santa Maria, Calif.) 54

McKenna Woliczko led the Monarchs with 21 points in about two and a half quarters of action as Mitty raced to a 44-18 halftime lead and 70-30 edge after three quarters.

The five-star junior post eight in the opening quarter and 11 in the second as Mitty got contributions from up and down the roster. Twelve players scored as Maliya Hunter tallied 12 points, Niyati Bangalore hit a trio of 3-pointers and Ze'Ni Patterson added eight points.

Ashlyn Waldram led St. Joseph with 13 while Jazelle Oropeza chipped in 10.

No. 2 Ontario Christian 93, Millennium (Goodyear, Ariz.) 45

All five starters scored in double figures for the Knights as sophomore Kaleena Smith put up 25 points and freshman Tati Griffin added 24 in a running-clock affair in the fourth period.

Ontario Christian led 22-14 after the first quarter boosted by a 10-0 run and took a 46-25 edge into the locker room.

Fellow Ontario Christian freshman Sydney Douglas added 15 points, Alanna Neale chipped in 12 and Dani Robinson had 10.

North Carolina State commit Destiny Lunan led Millennium with 22 points.
