Two dominant players in Alyssa Rudd and Alexis Cornejo are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Monte Vista Mustangs on the road again on Monday and play against the Summit Shasta Black Bears at 1:00 p.m. on January 15th. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Saturday, Monte Vista beat Pinole Valley 52-44. Given Monte Vista's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 188th, while Pinole Valley is ranked 397th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Monte Vista to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mahi Jariwala, who scored 22 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jariwala has scored all season. Rudd was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Summit Shasta entered their tilt with Pescadero with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Summit Shasta took their contest on the road on Wednesday with ease, bagging a 85-11 victory over Pescadero. Summit Shasta has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 24 points or more this season.
Monte Vista has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. As for Summit Shasta, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-2.
