Porterville hasn't had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. They enjoyed a cozy 40-26 victory over the Mt. Whitney Pioneers on Tuesday. That's two games straight that the Panthers have won by exactly 14 points.
Despite the loss, Mt. Whitney had strong showings from Kaylie Mares, who posted ten points in addition to six boards and six steals, and Dolores Carter, who scored five points and 15 rebounds. Mt. Whitney is 8-4 when Carter posts eight or more boards, but 2-7 otherwise.
Porterville's win bumped their record up to 8-17. As for Mt. Whitney, they dropped their record down to 10-11 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.
Coming up, Porterville will take on Monache at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Monache knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine contests -- so hopefully Porterville likes a good challenge. As for Mt. Whitney, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 71-36 loss against Redwood on the 6th.
