The Weston Ranch Cougars will square off against the Tokay Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Weston Ranch sitting on six straight wins and Tokay on three.
Weston Ranch's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They walked away with a 4-0 victory over Franklin.
MiguelAngel Ortega made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one hit in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nathan Newsome, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Tokay had just enough and edged out Edison 5-3 on Monday.
Jake Sell was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Nico Ferroni, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Tokay kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Tokay now has a winning record of 13-12. As for Weston Ranch, their win bumped their record up to 11-12.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Weston Ranch has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Tokay struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Weston Ranch suffered a grim 15-5 defeat to Tokay when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
