Basketball Game Preview: Orcutt Academy Spartans vs. Tehachapi Warriors

The Orcutt Academy Spartans and the Tehachapi Warriors will face off at 4:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Orcutt Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.9 points per game this season.

Orcutt Academy is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Immanuel just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Thursday. They lost to the Eagles on the road by a 52-35 margin. The contest marked the Spartans' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Orcutt Academy might have lost, but man, Elizabeth Johnson was a machine: she dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. The matchup was Johnson's 19th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Lylah Garcia, who posted two points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Orcutt Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 19 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Tehachapi's undefeated season came to an end after eight games on Thursday. They fell to Hoover 37-32. The loss put an end to the Warriors' undefeated start to the season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Tehachapi fell to 8-1. As for Orcutt Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-2.

Orcutt Academy came up short against Tehachapi in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 65-61. Can Orcutt Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
