The Spartans came out on top against Briarfield Academy by a score of 10-5 back in August. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Spartans.
Meanwhile, Laurel Christian faced Lamar Christian in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. Laurel Christian put the hurt on Lamar Christian with a sharp 13-0 victory. Laurel Christian might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Leyla Rigby and Gracie Blackwell were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Rigby tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Blackwell struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Rigby has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances. At the plate, Rigby got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Blackwell went 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bella Williamson, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Emma Risher was another key player, earning two runs and one stolen base.
Laurel Christian hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive games.
