New Covenant Academy is 8-2 against the Cardinals since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The New Covenant Academy Warriors will head out on the road to take on the Niangua Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. New Covenant Academy is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
Last Tuesday, New Covenant Academy came up short against the Patriots and fell 62-50. While losing is never fun, New Covenant Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 497th, while the Patriots are ranked 240th).
In what's become a running theme this season, Niangua gave their fans yet another huge victory on Tuesday. They really took it to Conway for the full four quarters, racking up a 80-47 victory at home. Niangua pushed the score to 55-32 by the end of the third, a deficit the Bears had little chance of recovering from.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Niangua to victory, but perhaps none more so than Clayton Henderson, who scored 26 points along with five rebounds. Henderson hasn't dropped below 17 points for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Tanier Dunn, who scored 19 points along with two steals and two blocks.
New Covenant Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season. As for Niangua, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-2.
Things could have been worse for New Covenant Academy, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 57-39 loss to the Cardinals in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Can New Covenant Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
