Sanford dropped down to 6-5-1 on Tuesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 11-4 to the Scarborough Red Storm. The Spartans were not able to make up for their defeat to the Red Storm from their previous meeting back in April of 2025.
Drew Vessels was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Vessels was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Collin Sevigny was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. Matty Herbert was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs.
As for Scarborough, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.
Like Sanford, Scarborough also got a great game from a two-way player: Cam Dean. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Dean has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
In other pitching news, Ryan Shugars tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April.
Back at the plate, Logan Noone was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Kam Duggan, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Sanford will face off against rival Kennebunk at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Scarborough is set to square off against their familiar foe Falmouth at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
