A big part of Westfield's victory came down to the chemistry between Aiden Grabowski and his top target Cooper Melvin. Grabowski rushed for 91 yards and one TD while Melvin rushed for 83 yards on only five carries. Those 83 rushing yards gave Melvin a new career-high.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Westfield proved: they limited Fishers to a paltry 3.2 yards per carry. While two picked up at least seven total tackles, Zane Newman stood above the rest. He picked up two sacks and made seven total tackles. Westfield didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged six.
Westfield's defense didn't let Gage Sturgill, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. Newman was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with seven.
Meanwhile, Carroll faced Penn in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Chargers walked away with a 42-30 win over the Kingsmen. 42 seems to be a good number for the Chargers as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Carroll's win came from a few key players Westfield will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Gabe Frisinger, who threw for 424 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 12.5 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 102 yards and one score. Mason Baughman did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 87 receiving yards.
Westfield's record is now 10-2. As for Carroll, their record now sits at 9-3.
Everything went Westfield's way against Carroll in their previous meeting back in November of 2021, as Westfield made off with a 37-14 win. Do the Shamrocks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chargers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
