Pilgrim and Smithfield are an even 4-4 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Patriots will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Sentinels at 4:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
As a matter of fact, Pilgrim put up the most runs they have all season on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Mt. Hope 11-10. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Patriots' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Smithfield not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since May 12, 2025 (when they won 8-1). They were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over Mt. Hope. The Sentinels haven't had any issues with the Huskies recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Gavin Gibree made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Gibree was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, Luke Dwyer and Sam Cicchitelli did most of the damage at the plate: Dwyer went 2-for-5 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one double, while Cicchitelli went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs. Those four RBI gave Dwyer a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Prata, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Smithfield's win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Pilgrim, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-7.
