On Tuesday, the Wasatch Wasps faced the Corner Canyon Chargers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Wasatch took a 57-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of Corner Canyon. It was the first time this season that Wasatch let down their fans at home.
Ashley Garner and Peyton Behnke certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Garner scored 20 points along with nine rebounds, while Behnke scored 20 points along with five steals. The game was Garner's 13th in a row with at least ten points.
Corner Canyon had a senior duo take command as Maia Rhay scored 23 points along with seven rebounds and five steals and Elina Mortensen scored 15 points along with nine rebounds. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Mortensen has scored at least 25% of Corner Canyon's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexi LeRoy, who scored eight points.
Wasatch's loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-3. As for Corner Canyon, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.
Wasatch will head out on the road to face off against Cedar Valley at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Corner Canyon, they will be playing at home against Riverton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Riverton is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
