Adams Central hasn't had much luck against Kearney Catholic recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Patriots will look to defend their home field against the Stars at 9:30 a.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Adams Central gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 4-1 win over Gothenburg. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Patriots.
Gothenburg's batters probably weren't too happy with Joshlyn Konen, who pitched a no hitter and racked up seven Ks (she gave up six walks).
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Macie Deines, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Alexis Palmer was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Adams Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, while Kearney Catholic put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Lexington. The Stars were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over the Minutemen. The Stars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Brenleigh Huxoll made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Raegan Ruyle was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Lily Vavra, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and five RBI.
Adams Central's victory bumped their record up to 7-14. As for Kearney Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 18-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Adams Central hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Kearney Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
