The Buchholz Bobcats will challenge the Wharton Wildcats at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Buchholz 2.7, Wharton 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Buchholz is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Pace 5-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bobcats.
The team relied heavily on Kai So, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3. What's more, he posted two runs, the most he's had since back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, Wharton got the win against Sickles on Saturday by a conclusive 12-1. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won 12 matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Wharton also got a great performance from Connor Evans as he struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Evans has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Justis Meadows was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Antonio Fawcett, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Wharton pushed their record up to 27-7 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Buchholz, their win bumped their record up to 32-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Buchholz has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Wharton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
