The Madera South Stallions lost against the Torres Toros back in November, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Madera South had to suffer through a rough 61-32 loss at the hands of Torres. While losing is never fun, Madera South can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 819th, while Torres is ranked 360th).
When it comes to explaining why Madera South lost, one person who can't be blamed is MAYRILIN VASQUEZ. Despite the final result, she scored 11 points. VASQUEZ scored a full 34.4% of Madera South's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of MICHELLE CORONA, who scored five points.
Torres got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sabrina Cerrillo out in front who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. The contest was Cerrillo's seventh in a row with at least ten points. J'Lynn Mitchell was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Madera South's defeat dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Torres, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-3.
Madera South will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Sunnyside at 6:30 p.m. on December 19th. Torres will be home for the holidays to greet Roosevelt at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
