Bishop Union dropped down to 5-4 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Kern Valley Broncs by a score of 4-3. The Broncos were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Broncs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.
Ben Kemp put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Will Kemp was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double. Brayden Leeson also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
As for Kern Valley, the win got them back to even at 4-4. The victory was a breath of fresh air for they as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Like Bishop Union, Kern Valley also got a great game from a two-way player: Aiden Madden. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts Madden has posted since back in March of 2025. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs. Kern Valley is 3-1 when Madden posts two or more stolen bases, but 1-3 otherwise.
Madden wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Blake Baughman, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
