The Barstow Aztecs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their ninth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Adelanto, falling 73-31. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Barstow in their matchups with Adelanto: they've now lost four in a row.
Barstow lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Makena Hassell, who scored six points along with seven steals and seven blocks. Another player making a difference was Jade Chavez, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Adelanto was led to victory by Heavenly Alexander and Nina Lacy. Alexander scored 19 points along with six steals, while Lacy dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. Alexander continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamiya Cantrell, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Barstow has been struggling recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season. As for Adelanto, they pushed their record up to 13-7 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Barstow will square off against Victor Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Victor Valley is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Adelanto, they will head out on the road to face off against Granite Hills at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Granite Hills has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
