The Holmes Aces were the 40-25 winner over the First Flight Nighthawks when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Holmes fell 54-44 to First Flight on Tuesday. Holmes was down 46-25 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Despite the loss, Holmes still got an impressive performance from Ellie Spear, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Kate Foster was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds.
Leading First Flight to victory were Josephine Voight and Maddy Beatson. Voight scored 14 points along with three steals, while Beatson scored 17 points along with five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Summer Stevens, who scored six points along with two steals.
Holmes has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season. As for First Flight, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
Holmes will stay at home for another game and welcome Camden County at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Camden County is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses. As for First Flight, they will head out on the road to take on Pasquotank County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Pasquotank County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 last Thursday.
