Basketball Game Preview: Polytechnic Panthers vs. Monrovia Wildcats

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Polytechnic Panthers duke it out with the Monrovia Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday... Polytechnic will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

While Polytechnic didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 67-17 win over Westridge. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 25 points or more this season.

Harper Doyle and Areni Ohanian were among the main playmakers for Polytechnic as the former went 9 for 15 on her way to 20 points and three steals and the latter went 6 of 14 on her way to 13 points in addition to eight steals and five assists. Ohanian has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophie Tan, who posted 11 points and four steals.

Polytechnic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in nine consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Monrovia was beaten by Whitney 57-15 on Monday. The game marked Monrovia's lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Monrovia dropped their record down to 4-6 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Polytechnic, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.

Polytechnic strolled past Monrovia in their previous meeting back in December of 2017 by a score of 47-31. Will Polytechnic repeat their success, or does Monrovia have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
