Kennedy is 2-8 against Chavez since January of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Kennedy Thunderbirds will be playing at home against the Chavez Titans at 6:30 p.m.
Kennedy suffered their biggest defeat since November 28, 2023 on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a rough 56-28 loss at the hands of Shafter. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Kennedy in their matchups with Shafter: they've now lost six in a row.
The losing side was boosted by Valeria Payan, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Devani Ochoa, who scored two points along with two steals and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Chavez came tearing into Friday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 47-28 win over Taft.
Hannah Diaz was her usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with four blocks. Another player making a difference was Chloe Lopez, who scored 14 points along with four steals.
Kennedy's defeat dropped their record down to 8-10. As for Chavez, they pushed their record up to 7-8 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home.
Kennedy came up short against Chavez in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 39-28. Can Kennedy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
