The Gates Chili Spartans managed to keep up with the Hilton Cadets until halftime on Saturday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Gates Chili was the victim of a rough 81-59 defeat at the hands of Hilton. Gates Chili just can't catch a break and has now endured three losses in a row.
Despite the loss, Gates Chili saw an underclassman step up: Joey Vigerzi scored 24 points along with two steals. Vigerzi is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tremier Lewis, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
Gates Chili bumped their record down to 2-10 with that defeat, which was their 13th straight on the road. As for Hilton, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-4.
Gates Chili will be playing in front of their home fans against Northeast/Northwest College Prep at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Northeast/Northwest College Prep knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Gates Chili likes a good challenge. As for Hilton, they will head out on the road to challenge Rush-Henrietta at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Rush-Henrietta will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New York Rankings (they are ranked 216th, while Hilton is ranked 70th).
