The Redwood Giants will head out to face off against the San Marin Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.
Redwood's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They skirted past Novato 2-0. The Giants haven't had any issues with the Hornets recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Jake Post looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sam Gersch, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for San Marin's offense. They fell just short of Livermore by a score of 1-0 on Saturday. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Jaden Brown spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits.
On the hitting side, San Marin saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joey Cipollina, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
Redwood now has a winning record of 2-1-1. As for San Marin, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Redwood has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like San Marin struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Redwood came out on top in a nail-biter against San Marin in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 6-5. Does Redwood have another victory up their sleeve, or will San Marin turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
