For the second straight game, Desert Mirage will face off against Banning. The RAMS will head out on the road to take on the Broncos at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Desert Mirage is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.7 runs per game this season.
Desert Mirage came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Banning, falling 11-5. The RAMS have struggled against the Broncos recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
For Banning's part, Nathan Cardiel was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts Cardiel has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Banning let Trevor Eisman and Ismael Zazueta Jr run wild. Eisman got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while Zazueta Jr went 3-for-4 with five RBI and one stolen base. Eisman is becoming a predictor of Banning's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-5 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Marcus, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs.
Banning kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.8.
Banning has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Desert Mirage, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Desert Mirage has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Banning struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
