Santa Maria has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Coast Union Broncos at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Santa Maria has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
Santa Maria scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They walked away with a 64-51 win over Lompoc. Given Santa Maria's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 450th, while Lompoc is ranked 973rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Santa Maria's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alyssa Reyes, who scored nine points along with nine assists and seven steals. Reyes is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Nevaeh Madrigal , who scored 11 points along with five steals and three blocks.
Meanwhile, Coast Union was fully in charge last Tuesday, breezing past Maricopa 47-6 at home. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 27-0.
Santa Maria's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points per game. As for Coast Union, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Santa Maria was able to grind out a solid victory over Coast Union when the teams last played back in December of 2022, winning 43-34. Does Santa Maria have another victory up their sleeve, or will Coast Union turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
