The St. Monica Mariners will head out to challenge the Cathedral Phantoms on Monday. St. Monica will be strutting in after a victory while Cathedral will be coming in after a defeat.
St. Monica took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They blew past St. Bernard 13-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Mariners have posted against the Vikings since March 22, 2019.

Gabriel Campbell was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of St. Monica's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-12 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, St. Monica let Gabe Villegas and Liam Bernheimer run wild. Villegas went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double, while Bernheimer went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. St. Monica is 2-1 when Villegas posts two or more stolen bases, but 10-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Joey Parra, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run.
St. Monica hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Bernard struck out six times.
Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary hit Cathedral with a four-run seventh inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Phantoms fell 6-3 to the Cardinals.
St. Monica is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-12 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for Cathedral, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-13 record this season.
St. Monica might still be hurting after the 7-1 loss they got from Cathedral in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Mariners avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
