Skyline is 9-1 against KIPP King since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Titans will square off against the Lions at 4:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Skyline is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Leadership Public Schools Richmond a 24-0 shutout. The Titans' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Meanwhile, KIPP King came tearing into Wednesday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with an 11-7 victory over the Tigers.
Andy Parga made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Parga was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for KIPP King: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-4 otherwise.
In other batting news, Xavier Gardley was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of KIPP King's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Marco Corona was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
KIPP King always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
KIPP King's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-4. As for Skyline, they moved to 10-12 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.
Skyline took their win against KIPP King in their previous matchup back in April of 2019 by a conclusive 11-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Titans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
