The Chavez Titans fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They greeted the New Year with with a 37-18 win over Linden. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Chavez also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
Chavez got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Zalika White out in front who scored 12 points along with seven steals and three blocks. The game was White's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Lauren Yann, who scored five points along with six assists and three blocks.
Several Lions players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jackie Mercer, who scored six points. Mercer scored a full 33.3% of Linden's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Chavez's win ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 5-11. As for Linden, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-14.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chavez will square off against Weston Ranch at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Linden will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Venture Academy at 2:30 p.m. on January 6th. Venture Academy is on a three-game streak of home losses, Linden a 13-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change.
