Escondido Charter is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They breezed past Hoover to the tune of 65-36. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 17 contests by 25 points or more this season.

Escondido Charter relied on the efforts of Azalea Vilaysing, who en route to 22 points and four steals, and Kami Gillis, who almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds. The matchup was Vilaysing's fifth in a row with at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was CC Goss, who posted eight points and eight boards.
Escondido Charter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Central was able to grind out a solid victory over Valley Center on Saturday, taking the game 65-53. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.
Central's win came from a few key players Escondido Charter will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Victoria Zamora, who scored 25 points. That's the most points she has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Rhyanna Velasco-Martinez, who had 15 points and four steals.
Escondido Charter's win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-8. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 32.9 points. As for Central, their victory bumped their record up to 17-12.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Escondido Charter has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 35.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
