After having lost a blowout in their previous game against American Fork, the Cottonwood Colts were happy to have found some success on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Summit Academy as Cottonwood made off with a 67-44 win. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Cottonwood also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2022.
Among those leading the charge was Avea van der Beek, who scored 18 points. Ciel Budge was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Summit Academy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Avery Backus, who scored 20 points along with 5 rebounds, and Destinee Flores who scored 13 points along with 6 rebounds. Backus scored a full 45.5% of Summit Academy's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sierra Johnson, who scored 2 points.
The victory got Cottonwood back to even at 1-1. As for Summit Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cottonwood will take on Cedar Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cedar Valley presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Cottonwood in Utah (Cedar Valley is ranked 19th, while Cottonwood is ranked 66th). As for Summit Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against North Summit at 7:00 p.m.
