The Leigh Longhorns stacked a sixth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. Their defense stepped up to hand Lincoln a 5-0 shutout. Given Leigh's advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 11th, while Lincoln is ranked 446th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leigh hit Lincoln with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from
Piper Bertani (2),
Maggie Currie (2), and
Jessica Halkett.
The victory for Leigh keeps them at an undefeated 16-0-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 17 goals over those four games. As for Lincoln, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-10-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Leigh will face off against Branham at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Leigh's defense has only allowed 0.4 goals per game this season, so Branham's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Lincoln, they will head out on the road to square off against Ann Sobrato at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
