If the San Bernardino Cardinals were riding high off their 59-31 takedown of the Mira Monte Lions last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The New Year welcomed San Bernardino with a 84-26 whooping from Dana Hills on Thursday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points San Bernardino has scored all season.
Despite the loss, San Bernardino saw an underclassman step up: Laniah Porter scored five points along with 12 rebounds and three blocks. Porter hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for five straight games.
Leading Dana Hills to victory were Sofi Vaka and Kayla Rice. Vaka scored 21 points along with four steals, while Rice scored 28 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The match was Rice's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Brooklyn Akason was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with four steals.
San Bernardino's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-7. As for Dana Hills, their victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. San Bernardino's road trip will continue as they head out to face Rubidoux at 6:45 p.m. on January 9th. Rubidoux has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 1. As for Dana Hills, they will head out on the road to face off against St. Margaret's at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. St. Margaret's is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
