Downey is 10-0 against the Bears since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Downey Vikings will head out on the road to take on the Warren Bears at 5:15 p.m. Hopefully Downey is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Bears in California (the Vikings are ranked 125th, while the Bears are ranked 499th).
Downey put the finishing touches on their ninth blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Gahr with a sharp 60-37 win. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Downey had established a 22 point advantage.
Downey's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Symantha Barnett, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds, and Olivia Vaughn, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine steals. Vaughn has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played. Another player making a difference was Genesis Salinas, who scored nine points along with five assists.
Meanwhile, Warren's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight defeat. Their tough 58-37 loss to Gahr might stick with them for a while.
Downey has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-12 record this season. As for Warren, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-14.
Everything came up roses for Downey against the Bears in their previous matchup back in January as the team secured a 67-22 win. With Downey ahead 35-10 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
