Lincoln Southeast had lost eight games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 4-20 on Saturday that streak is in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Fremont Tigers 7-5. This was payback for the Knights, who suffered an 8-6 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Sydney Kjeldgaard made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Makhya Jay, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted over her last nine matchups. Another player making a difference was Raina Waller, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
As for Fremont, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 13 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-20 record this season. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss they have suffered since August 30th.
On Fremont's side, Megan Thomson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up ten Ks. Thomson has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Morgan Sintek made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Charli Mastny was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Lincoln Southeast has already played their next game, an 8-6 defeat against Scottsbluff on the 27th. As for Fremont, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 7-2 loss against Elkhorn on the 27th.
