Etowah and Cherokee are an even 5-5 against one another since September of 2015, but not for long. The Eagles will be playing at home against the Warriors at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Etowah has given up an average of 32.4 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Etowah is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 31 points on September 5th, they were much more limited against Marietta on Friday. They were beaten by the Blue Devils 43-9. The game marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
The losing side was boosted by Zeke Douglass, who rushed for 96 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 126 yards on seven of 23 attempts.
Meanwhile, Cherokee scored the most points they've had this season two weeks ago, but it wasn't enough. The matchup between the Warriors and North Paulding didn't end well, with the Warriors falling 59-43. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on September 5th (40), the Warriors still had to take the loss.
The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Brandon Hamilton and Khalil Harrell. Harrell had a great game and rushed for 230 yards and four TDs while picking up 14.4 yards per carry. Meanwhile, Hamilton was balling out in the loss, rushing for 237 yards and three scores on only 15 carries.
Cherokee's loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Etowah, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Etowah has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 180.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Cherokee struggles in that department as they've been averaging 179.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Etowah ended up a good deal behind Cherokee when the teams last played back in September of 2024, losing 42-25. Thankfully for the Eagles, Tanner Savasir (who threw for 281 yards and three touchdowns on only 18 passes, and also punched in one TD on the ground) won't be suiting up this time.
