Santa Fe Trail has gone 8-2 against Anderson County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Chargers will head out on the road to take on the Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Santa Fe Trail has seven straight wins, Anderson County has 16 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Santa Fe Trail came out on top against Baldwin on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run second inning. The Chargers took their game against the Bulldogs 6-2.
Sydnee Sleichter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, Camee Whitaker was excellent, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season. Peyton Ganger was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Santa Fe Trail kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Anderson County came up short against Wellsville two weeks ago, falling 8-2.
Santa Fe Trail's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Anderson County, their loss dropped their record down to 0-9.
Anderson County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Santa Fe Trail has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12 hits per game. It's a different story for Anderson County, though, as they've been averaging 8.8 hits. Given Santa Fe Trail's sizable advantage in that area, the Bulldogs will need to find a way to close that gap.
Santa Fe Trail beat Anderson County 5-0 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chargers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
