Fullerton has gone a perfect 5-0 against Laguna Hills recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Indians will welcome the Hawks at 3:15 p.m. Fullerton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Fullerton came up short against Costa Mesa and fell 6-1.
Fullerton got a good showing from Gavin Talavera, who tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Talavera has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Fullerton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caleb Brown, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, Laguna Hills posted their closest win since March 10th on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Segerstrom 3-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Hawks.
Joseph Skala spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up six Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Laguna Hills is 6-3 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 6-8 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Nate Medina, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Laguna Hills is undefeated when Medina posts two or more runs, but 6-11 otherwise. Chris Cooke was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Laguna Hills hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.
Fullerton's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 14-8. As for Laguna Hills, they now have a winning record of 12-11.
Fullerton was able to grind out a solid victory over Laguna Hills in their previous meeting on April 3rd, winning 5-2. Will the Indians repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
