Football Recap: Lyrik Pettis and Dakota Smith Lead the Defense for Crest Win

Crest won the last time they faced Shelby and things went their way on Friday too. The Chargers walked away with a 31-24 victory over the Golden Lions. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Chargers.

Ely Hamrick was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 100 yards and one score on only 12 carries, and also threw for 142 yards and a pair of TDs. Michael Edwards was Hamrick's top target, picking up 57 receiving yards and one touchdown, while also rushing for 31 yards.

Crest didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Lyrik Pettis and Dakota Smith.

Despite the loss, Shelby still got an impressive performance from Lan Farmer, who rushed for 114 yards and one TD, and also threw for 107 yards on nine of 23 attempts.

Crest's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Shelby, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Crest and Shelby should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. The Chargers (ranked 20th) will meet Asheville (ranked 94th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Shelby will challenge Highland Tech at 7:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (42 vs. 399).
