Even though the Spring Valley Timberwolves scored an imposing 55 points on Friday, the Russell Red Devils still came out on top. Russell took their match against Spring Valley 63-55. The victory was all the more spectacular given Russell's disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 130th in Kentucky, while Spring Valley is ranked 46th in West Virginia).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Russell to victory, but perhaps none more so than Elijah Neel, who scored 22 points. The matchup was Neel's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Caleb Rimmer, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds.
The win got Russell back to even at 3-3. As for Spring Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.
Russell and Newport Central Catholic will round out the year against one another at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at. Spring Valley's road trip will continue as they head out to face Princeton at 4:30 p.m. on December 27th. Princeton will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
