The Stevenson Pirates will take on the Monte Vista Christian Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Stevenson gave up the first runs last Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over Credo. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by seven runs or more this season.

Phinn Thomas made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Stevenson: the team is 6-1 when he allows at most three hits, but 3-4 otherwise. Thomas was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with five RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Reggie Bell, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. Tono Borgomini was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
Stevenson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Monte Vista Christian entered their tilt with Evergreen Valley on Tuesday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over the Cougars.
Like Stevenson, Monte Vista Christian also got a great game from a two-way player: Brady Cortez. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Cortez was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Tyson Shaw was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Evan Vessey, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Monte Vista Christian's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Stevenson, their win bumped their record up to 9-5.
Stevenson skirted past Monte Vista Christian 7-6 in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Do the Pirates have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
