The Mt. Diablo Red Devils waltzed into their match on Monday with two straight wins but they left with three. They walked away with a 63-53 victory over Northgate. Mt. Diablo pushed the score to 50-30 by the end of the third, a deficit Northgate cut but never quite recovered from.
Mt. Diablo's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mykalyn Gutierrez, who scored 20 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gutierrez has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Dance, who scored 15 points.
Despite the loss, Northgate still got an impressive performance from Amelia Schrag, who scored 29 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. Schrag has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Maddison Sardelich was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with nine rebounds.
Mt. Diablo is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season. As for Northgate, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 17-7.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Acalanes the next time they take the court. Northgate will head out to face Acalanes at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while Mt. Diablo will host them at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
