This season hasn't been kind to the Carson Cougars, who are still winless after their fifth matchup. They were the victim of a tough 45-24 defeat at the hands of Central Cabarrus on Friday. Carson was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 30-10.
Despite the defeat, Carson saw an underclassman step up: Rylee Hedrick scored 13 points along with 5 steals. Hedrick scored a full 54.2% of Carson's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Carson's loss was their fifth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 0-5. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 19.2 points per game. As for Central Cabarrus, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-1.
Carson will head out on the road to face off against West Rowan at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in West Rowan's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. Central Cabarrus will be home for the holidays to greet Hickory Ridge at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
