Thousand Oaks and Westlake are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Lancers will take on the Warriors at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Thousand Oaks and Oaks Christian meet (two straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Lancers fell just short of the Lions by a score of 3-2.
Thousand Oaks got a good showing from Jackson Auster, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Auster has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Thousand Oaks saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jake Ange, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, after a string of nine wins, Westlake's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They came up short against Calabasas, falling 10-4. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Warriors, who until this game were averaging 3.33 runs allowed.
Mason Berlinger and Joey Moore stepped up to the plate in a big way. Berlinger went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Moore went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Noa Nakagawa was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double.
Thousand Oaks' loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Westlake, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 11-4.
Thousand Oaks couldn't quite get it done against Westlake in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 as they fell 7-2. Can the Lancers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
