Azusa suffered their biggest loss since November 29, 2023 on Friday. They suffered a rough 33-13 defeat at the hands of Duarte. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Azusa has scored all season.
Meanwhile, the matchup between Sierra Vista and Duarte on Wednesday hardly resembled the 25-20 effort from their previous meeting. Sierra Vista fell just short of Duarte by a score of 56-53. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Sierra Vista has suffered yet this season.
Despite the loss, Sierra Vista saw an underclassman step up: Cailei Buna scored 38 points along with five rebounds and four steals. That was a full 71.7% of Sierra Vista's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Zaira Eulloque, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds and eight steals.
Azusa has been struggling recently, as they've lost ten of their last 11 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season. As for Sierra Vista, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.
Azusa came up short against Sierra Vista in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 26-17. Can Azusa avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
