The Ventura Cougars will square off against the Claremont Wolfpack at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
With a playoff game on the line, Ventura rose to the challenge on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Scorpions as they made off with a 65-44 win. Ventura has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 matchups by 20 points or more this season.
It was another big night for Skyler Knight, who shot 8-for-13 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 34 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kailee Staniland, who scored 17 points along with seven assists and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Claremont entered their tilt with Los Altos with eight consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with nine. Claremont came out on top against Los Altos by a score of 49-40 on Thursday. Given Claremont's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 76th, while Los Altos is ranked 302nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ventura pushed their record up to 25-4 with that victory, which was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Claremont, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 22-7 record this season.
